She went out for cigarettes
and didn't come back for ten days
I lay in bed but never slept
I phoned her mom and begged and prayed
and daily talked to the police
to each and every goddamn priest
spoke to her nephew and her niece
and all I found to say was please
when she came back some sunny day
this was all she had to say
