I met a man who said
hey come along with me
I know the way to paradise
I thought I'd better try
but in a little while
everything turned cold as ice
I left him silently
and when I looked around
I found I'd really lost my way
yet everything was strange
nobody looked at me
and there was nothing left to say
lay down beside the road
and closed my weary eyes
but then my head was full of dreams
I didn't know my name
a snake was chasing me
and I awoke with piercing screams
but now I see a little light
and tho' it's lots of fun
I don't say that it's a star bright
I don't call it the sun
'cause all the light is one
my heart was turned to stone
my smile left far behind
and I had nothing but a sneer
but deep inside I knew
I had to fight and try
to chase the demons and see clear
but it's so hard to do
I cannot turn to you
'cause this must be a one man fight
I have to break the ring
before I'll ever sing
there's new and better land in sight
so if you meet the man
who wants to lead the way
and tries to sell salvation maps
you better stop your ears
and take to your own road
'cause I know his is but a trap
refr.
