Beware of Memory Lane

it has become another street

only the same in name

and the people that you meet

have changed beyond recognition

so full of doubt and suspicion

Going down Memory Lane

places and things you used to know

but it all feels quite insane

strangers moving to and fro’

you seem to watch a competition

between now and time’s attrition

     traveling back in time

     reclaiming what was mine

     cutting it way too fine

When you go down Memory Lane

spectres, phantoms stare you down

and remembrance is a bane

so you stop and stare and frown

and recite the act of contrition

all you feel is contradiction
