I traveled far into girls' bodies
along the sidelines of their looks
I journeyed far in writers' minds
along the chapters of their books
I watched women standing, sitting
saw their eternity at rest
I felt their love and fear and longing
I gave my worst and took their best
and at the bottom of the ocean
there are sunken ships galore
and the bowels of the earth
are shot through with diamond ore
but you mean so much more
than what came before
yes you mean so much more
than any window, any door
yeah you mean so much more
I read novels, poems and plays
I got lost and found and worried
I wrote letters,lays and songs
I was slow but learned to hurry
I made love and war and peace
never really understanding
all this living all this learning
could be so damnably demanding
